Welcome to Portland Center of Classical Acupuncture

Meg Castagna holds both a Masters and Bachelors degree in acupuncture from the Academy of Five Element Acupuncture and the Worsley Institute of Classical Acupuncture. She is a licensed acupuncturist in the State of Maine and a diplomate of the NCCAOM (National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine).

Her approach to treatment is holistic, approaching each patient as a unique individual. She works with people from all walks of life who come to acupuncture for help with all types of conditions. By treating the underlying causative factor of disease, Classical Acupuncture assists nature in restoring balance and harmony to the system, thereby enhancing health.

Benefits

Many complaints, both acute and chronic can be helped by acupuncture treatment. The World Health Organization of the United States lists many conditions for which it considers acupuncture appropriate: arthritis, sciatica, neuralgia, back pain, headache, stroke, asthma, high blood pressure, hemorrhoids, diarrhea, constipation, anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, eczema, menstrual problems, infertility, impotence, sinus infections, earaches, hay fever (list not all inclusive).

These symptoms - physical, mental and emotional - are nature's way of ‘red flagging’ an imbalance in the system. Classical Acupuncture corrects the cause of the imbalance and thus relieves the symptom.

What to Expect

THE FIRST VISIT is about 2 hours. We do an in-depth case history, a physical exam and your first acupuncture treatment.

SUBSEQUENT APPOINTMENTS are 1 hour in length, spaced at 1 week intervals generally for 6-8 weeks. Since we are all unique, we respond to treatment differently. Some people see improvement to their main complaint quickly, while others with more deep-rooted conditions may require a longer course of treatment. Change tends to be gradual and treatments are spaced further and further apart as the patient progresses.
